Apply to be El Tímpano's Photojournalist
Full-time position to produce empathetic visual storytelling of Latino and Mayan immigrant communities
Position: Full-time exempt, funded for two years, with an expectation of permanent funding
Salary: $62,000-$85,000 depending on skills and experience
Deadline to apply: January 30, 2023
El Tímpano, an award-winning local journalism and civic engagement organization, in partnership with Report For America and Catchlight, is seeking a Photojournalist to produce groundbreaking and empathetic visual journalism that is sourced in community engagement within the Bay Area’s Latino and Mayan immigrant communities. This photojournalist will help us amplify the stories shared by our community, and document the individuals behind those stories.
For our first four years, El Tímpano has focused on building relationships of trust with thousands of Latino and Mayan immigrants in the region, who confide their stories and value the opportunity for their voices to be heard, despite the vulnerabilities they may face as undocumented immigrants or low-wage workers. Now we are building out a more traditional newsroom, and we see visual storytelling as a key part of this next stage of growth.
This position will be based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We will not consider long-term remote candidates.
El Tímpano is a fiscally sponsored project of the 501(c)(3) public charity Independent Arts & Media (IAM). All employees of El Tímpano are employees of IAM, and subject to all IAM policies and procedures.

Have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, including the ability to communicate respectfully and inclusively in diverse environments with colleagues, community members, and external peers
Thrive in a start-up environment where you are expected to build things from scratch, learn and iterate as you go, collaborate with a team, and adapt as the organization grows and evolves
