El Tímpano welcomes new editorial staff

El Tímpano is thrilled to announce three new members of our team whose roles expand our capacity to produce in-depth journalism with, for, and about the Bay Area’s Latino and Mayan immigrant communities. 

Veteran journalist Maye Primera joins as El Tímpano’s first Managing Editor to build, lead, and manage our growing newsroom. Maye brings two decades of experience as an award-winning reporter and respected newsroom leader for print, broadcast, and digital publications in the U.S. and abroad. Her coverage of immigration, politics, borders, and human rights has garnered numerous awards, including an Emmy Award, the Hillman Prize, the RFK Human Rights Journalism Award, two Edward Murrow Awards, and many more. 

Crisaly Marquez-Santos is El Tímpano’s Digital Engagement Manager. She brings to the role a background in grassroots organizing and digital strategy that she honed working in environmental justice and political campaigning in her home state of Nevada. In this new role, Crisaly oversees strategy for El Tímpano’s social and digital platforms to expand our reach and engagement with diverse audiences.

El Tímpano also welcomes Kervy Justo Robles as our Community Voices Reporter. A native of Lima, Peru, Kervy has reported from El Salvador, Mexico, and Northern California where he now lives. His work has been published in CBS News, NBC Latino, KQED, CNN, Universidad Portátil and Revista El Malpensante, and has won two Emmy Awards for his role as television producer in New York and the Bay Area. As El Tímpano’s Community Voices Reporter, Kervy works with community members to tell stories that shine light on the joys, struggles, and diverse complexities of the immigrant experience. 

Maye, Crisaly, and Kervy join a team that includes Founding Director Madeleine Bair, Civic Partnerships Manager Deana Balinton, Assistant Producer Vanessa Nava, Collaborations Editor Monica Campbell, and translator José Luis Caicedo.
