"Pasa La Voz" Offers Actionable News & Info

From February through April of 2019, hundreds of East Oakland residents received a weekly text with “news you can use” from El Tímpano. They had all signed up to be a part of our latest pilot, “Pasa La Voz” (Spanish for “Spread the Word”)—a participatory news service designed to provide empowering, local information to Oakland’s Latino immigrant community through text messages. Each week, subscribers received news, resources, or information on issues such as health, housing, education, and immigration, and had the opportunity to share their questions, concerns, or stories on that issue. 

Pasa La Voz was launched with the support of the Reynolds Journalism Institute and the Lenfest Institute.
